2011 NFL Preview: New York Giants

2010 Record: 10-6

Offense:

Eli Manning considers himself in the same class as Tom Brady, too bad the rest of the league/planet disagrees. Manning has been intercepted 104 times over the last six years, including 25 times in 2010, and this could get worse with Steve Smith making his way over the Eagles (along with the loss of Kevin Boss). Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are a pretty good combo for a running attack, but I do worry that they might have a bit of a letdown after all the changes on the offensive line. I still like Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham, but Steve Smith couldn't made them great (well, if they had a real QB). This is a good offense that can grind out some wins, the problem is turnovers and now that they have lost some skill things could get worse.

Defense:

Coming into the season I would've said this was a pretty good defense, but damn they have hit the injury bug hard, especially at CB. New York has lost starter Terrell Thomas (knee), Bruce Johnson (Achilles), Brian Witherspoon (knee), and Woodny Turrene (calf). If that wasn't bad enough first-round draft pick Prince Amukamara, lost to the team until at least early October as he recovers from surgery. And all of that is just at CB!!! Also lost for the season are defensive tackle Marvin Austin (pectoral), defensive back Cary Harris (shoulder), defensive tackle Martin Parker (leg), and safety Chad Jones (leg). Even Osi Umenyiora might miss the first week of the season. The Giants still have some talent such as defensive ends Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul, linebacker Michael Boley and defensive backs Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips and Corey Webster, but they are going to be very thin, and any more injuries and this unit could go from an injured unit to a broken unit.

Overall:

To many injuries, a shitty QB and losses to free agency will sink this team to below .500 for the first time since 2004.
