The Sox have a 1 1/2 game lead going into tonight's game, but it doesn't look good for Boston with Lackey going against CC. On paper anyways...
Lackey has been the beneficiary a shit load of run support lately, going 7-1 in his last nine starts despite a 4.11 ERA, but give him credit it's better then where he was. He also beat CC earlier in the season going 6 innings allowing 3 runs, so maybe the Sox got a chance tonight. Me picking the Sox tonight actually has more to do with how they have beat up on CC more then I think what Lackey will be able to do.
Sabathia went 4-1 with a 3.04 ERA in his first eight starts against the Red Sox, but this season is 0-4 with a 7.20 ERA against Boston. When you compare that to 17-3 record with a 2.40 ERA versus all other opponents it's pretty incredible.
We have been saying all year, but Boston seems to get their offense going when there is a big name pitcher on the mound. The game could easily be a Yankees blowout, Lackey has beat them twice this year and the Red Sox just have the Yankees number.
Red Sox win 8-7
