2011 NFL Preview: Miami Dolphins

2010 Record: 7-9

Offense:

Here is an interesting stat I saw the other day "Henne’s passer rating when two wide receivers were on the field was 67; with three receivers it was 79; with four or more receivers it was 83 (NYTimes)". Maybe that is why the Dolphins brought in Reggie Bush. Maybe they are finally going to get away from trying to run the ball down everyone's throat. Maybe that is the key to getting something out of Henne. With WRs Brandon Marshall, and Davon Bess on top of basically a WR coming out of the backfield the Dolphins could have a pretty good passing attack. They better be able to with Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown gone. Daniel Thomas will be their "up the middle" back, and I actually like him as a sleeper fantasy guy.

Defense:

The Dolphins have a very underrated LB core with Karlos Dansby, Cameron Wake, and Kevin Burnett. With 355 pound Soliai eating up space in the middle the Dolphins should once again be very good against the run (7th in the NFL last year). The problem is their pass defense (27th in the NFL last year). Their starting corners combined for 1 INT last year, and I don't see that improving much unless they can get a lot more pressure on the QB.

Overall:

Kind of a weird season for the Dolphins. They tied to get rid of their coach, failed and resigned him. They tried to get rid of their QB, failed and now he is still their starter. I think their offensive passing game will be improved, but Henne still sucks, and this defense can stop anyone that passes. That is a serious problem with the Patriots in your division.
