Red Sox are now 2 1/2 games out of first, as Lester takes the hill to face Luis Perez. Lester has won his last three decisions and has a 1.50 ERA over his last four starts, giving up one earned run in each, but we need to see him pitch deep into games, as he only lasted 5 innings last time out. This bullpen needs a rest, so I am looking for Lester to pitch 8 innings tonight.
Perez allowed five runs and two homers over five innings in his third career start Thursday. Boston hasn't faced him as a starter, but have gone against him some as a reliever (giving up seven runs and 11 hits in 8 1-3 innings). Boston was shutdown last game not scoring a single run in an 11 inning loss. One would think they are due for a lot of runs.
