NFL Preview: Philadelphia Eagles

Offense:

Vick just got signed long term and the Eagles have the most weapons of any team. Their offense alone has Vick and a very good back up in Vince Young, wide receivers in Desean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Steve Smith, TE Brent Celek and RBs Lesean McCoy and Ronnie Brown. All of those players can break a game open. But ultimately the pressure lies squarely on the shoulders of Vick and whether he can maintain playing at a high and smart level. If Vick can hit on all cylinders this offense will be scary good. Also with Ronnie Brown flanking McCoy, Andy Reed needs to commit more time to the run game.

Defense:

Looking to get back to the Jim Johnson tough defense, Andy Reed fired basically everyone, so with a revamped defensive coaching staff, they have a revamped defense, especially the secondary. The new-look defensive staff will lean heavily on the NFL’s top cornerback squad in Asante Samuel, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha. The Eagles acquired Rodgers-Cromartie from Arizona for backup quarterback Kevin Kolb then surprised pretty much everyone in the NFL by stealing Asomugha away from the Jets and Texans in free agency. The corners are set, but there are some questions at safety. Can Nate Allen return from a knee injury? Will rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett be able to step in for Quintin Mikell at strong safety? Maybe the will move Rodgers Cromartie back to the safety spot where he dabbled in Philly. Jason Babin came back was huge, for the defensive line. He and Trent Cole don't make a bad duo at DE. However, I'm not a big fan of their DT and LB, and since teams will struggle to pass, they might find some more success on the ground. Jamar Chaney and Moise Fokou don't really make me shake too much.

Overall:

11-5 and that will be underachieving to the Dream Team
