"Agent Drew Rosenhaus has filed a formal trade request on behalf of his client, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs. This comes after the six-time Pro Bowler and nine-year veteran asked the team for a raise and was kindly rebuffed. The Chicago Tribune reports that Rosenhaus made the trade request via email (CBS Sports)."
Not sure how serious I should even take this, because Briggs did this exact same thing in 2007, when he declared he would "never play for the Bears again". 4 years later here we are. What I think is happening here is that Briggs knows he is going to get cut in a couple years. Why? Well his contract becomes a mess.
"Details on Briggs' current contract situation, via the Tribune: "He is scheduled to make $3.9 million this season (including bonuses), $4 million in 2012 and $6.5 million in 2013 (CBS Sports)."
So, I think he knows when he gets to 2013 that he might not see that money can he'll get cut. He basically wants to flip the contract, so he get the better money upfront, which would guarantee more.
If I was the Bears I wouldn't do anything, unless he stops showing up or something. They have him locked down for 3 more years, so it isn't like he is going anywhere.
Anyways, fuck the Bears. My hatred for them started with the signing of Cutler.
